Single parents, stepparents, and co-parents 06/09/2006

If you have children, is your bidie-in their step-parent or co-parent? If you live with someone who has children, what rights and responsibilities do you have towards their children?

Breaking up is never easy, whether or not there is a legal tie to be dissolved. It's more difficult when children are involved. Responsibilities to children continue even after a relationship has ended.

There are several organisations which provide support for single parents: One Parent Families Scotland is based in Edinburgh and includes resources specifically for lesbian mothers. The National Lone Parent Helpline number for Scotland is 0808 801 0323.

Lesbian Mothers Scotland is a network for lesbian mothers, partners, co-parents & their children, and for lesbians thinking about becoming parents. Gay Dads Scotland is a social and support group for gay fathers. Both groups offer support for single parents.
